  • Accessibility: This train is wheelchair accessible via a portable wheelchair lift! Please call ahead if you will need the lift and plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before the departure time so we can best assist you! Unfortunately, wheelchairs can not be taken off the train at Rockaway Beach. Passengers with wheelchairs will either need to be able to negotiate steps or stay on the train to watch the tree lighting ceremony. Note: Due to the historic nature of the cars, restrooms on board the train are not wheelchair accessible.
  • Pets are Allowed in Outdoor Cars!: Dogs are allowed aboard the Candy Cane Express in our outdoor covered car! Only task trained service animals are allowed in the indoor cars.

A Special Tree Lighting Experience

Join us for a once-a-year opportunity to ride a beautifully decorated steam-powered train from Garibaldi to Rockaway Beach to enjoy the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony! You will enjoy stress-free journey to and from the event without the hassle of parking at this busy event. The train departs from Garibaldi at 5:30 PM, arrives in Rockaway Beach at 6:00 PM, then departs from Rockaway beach at 7:00 PM to return to Garibaldi by 7:30 PM.

Note: This trip does not have complimentary cookies, cocoa and candy canes on board like our Candy Cane Express train.

Seating Options

If you are booking your group on separate reservations, please ensure that your seats are in the same car if you wish to all sit together. We assign cars but not seat numbers on this excursion.

Outdoor Cars

Covered Car – Outdoor that has a roof but no windows. A great way to be immersed in the scenery as you roll along!

Indoor Cars

Enclosed Cars – 1950’s Dining Cars with tables and chairs. These are fully enclosed with windows and a roof.

Coach Car – 1920’s passenger car with cushioned seats. Fully enclosed with windows and a roof.Decorated vintage train interior with green seats and ceiling garlands.

Table Car – 1910 dining car. Has tables and chairs, and is fully enclosed with windows and a roof.

Caboose Rental:
The caboose charter is an exclusive experience aboard Candy Cane Express where you and your party can rent our entire caboose! The caboose comfortably holds 8 people, with a maximum of 10 people. The price of the charter includes as many people as you wish to bring up to 10 people. A caboose rental gives your group their own private space and a front row seat right behind the steam locomotive!
