Ticket Agent Position

Location: Garibaldi, OR
Salary: $14.70/hr + Tips
Part-time/Full-time
Non-exempt
Position reports to: Operations Supervisor

Position Purpose:
In keeping with the mission of Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad, which is to educate about, preserve, and restore the history of logging railroading in the Pacific Northwest, the ticket agent is responsible for the sale of tickets and merchandise to the general public in a kind and respectful manner.

Essential Duties:
The ticket agent is required to:
1. Prepare cash drawer and on board Point-of-Sale system for the day.
2. Assist the conductor and car host in preparations for the day’s passengers.
3. Monitor inventory stock and restock if needed.
4. Quickly and efficiently sell tickets and merchandise on board the train through the Point-of-Sale.
5. Communicate effectively with the rest of the train crew.
6. Answer questions and provide information about the area and the history of the railroad.
7. Provide excellent customer service, treating guests with respect and kindness.
8. Help riders board and de-board the train.
9. At conclusion of the day the ticket agent must thoroughly clean the train for the next day.
10. Close register/POS and prepare an end of day money report. They must also ensure that the cash bag is given directly to a supervisor and that POS technology is properly stored.

Performance Measurements
1. Neat and clean appearance adhering to the dress code.
2. Courteous and efficient relations with guests, including problem solving skills and the ability to meet immediate needs.
3. Demonstrate an ability to accurately disseminate information about the railroad, the trains, the history of the railroad, and other train events.
4. Positive attitude and eagerness to assist customers.
5. Positive and effective relations with co-workers.
6. Proper handling of collected fares.
7. Timely work attendance and adherence to the worker replacement policy.

Qualifications:
1. Ability to positively interact with people – guests and co-workers alike.
2. Enthusiasm to provide excellent customer service.
3. High degree of comfort around computer systems.
4. Ability to accurately handle funds and reconcile a cash drawer.
5. Flexibility and ability to adapt to unexpected circumstances.
6. Willingness to work during weekends and around the holiday season.
7. Punctuality.

Working Conditions:
1. The ticket agent position is part-time and seasonal. During high season, full-time positions may be available.
2. Training is in the classroom and on-the-job.
3. Length of shift is generally between 7.5 – 10 hours based on the railroad’s needs during the running season.
4. Work is primarily conducted on board the train or on the platform. Outdoor work may be required during special events.
5. 30-minute lunch breaks are paid as there is no guarantee that the break will be uninterrupted. Should a bathroom break be needed, other staff can cover the point of sale.
6. Smoking is prohibited on railroad property.
7. Must be able to work well under pressure.
8. If a situation arises where help is needed, a phone and radio are provided so that the proper individuals and authorities may be contacted.
