For the first time ever, OCSR is pleased to offer limited summer service on the northern half of our railroad to the City of Wheeler! As the train rolls along, passengers will be able to take in the sights and sounds of our 100 year old McCloud River Railroad #25 steam locomotive as the train chugs past the coastal views, through forests and along estuaries in the late afternoon light, with the return trip occurring right at golden hour! This excursion has two different departure locations to choose from (see below) that will vary the total length of the trip and cost of the trip.
No matter which option you choose, all passengers will be given a layover in stunning Wheeler along the Nehalem Bay, where they will be able to disembark for 1-hour. During the layover in Wheeler, our partner businesses will be staying open late so passengers can enjoy all that Wheeler has to offer, including local cuisine and artisan shops! This 1-hour layover is included in the total round trip time of both options.

This trip includes informative narration about the railroad, local history and the natural world we’re traveling through. The Garibaldi Departure allows guests to see the entirety of our active railroad and the greatest variety of scenery! The train will travel along our regular route from Garibaldi to Rockaway Beach that includes views of Tillamook Bay and its coastal estuaries, as well as the rarely seen views on the route between Roackaway Beach and Wheeler, featuring the Nehalem Bay and the picturesque Coast Range Mountains. If you’re looking for a slightly shorter trip but still want to see the line to Wheeler, we have an option for this excursion that departs from Rockaway Beach, cutting the trip down to a 2.5-hour total round trip time and lowering the cost. Please select the “Wheeler Limited Excursion Rockaway Beach Departure” option to book the shorter trip.
Coach Car – Cushioned seats with windows at each seat that can slide open.
Table Car – Two seat and four set tables with chairs. Fully enclosed with windows that can slide open.
Covered Open Car – Open air car equipped with bench seats and a roof.
Open Top Car – Open air car equipped with bench seats and no roof.
Caboose Rental (Available only from Garibaldi)
A private caboose for your group to have an exclusive experience on our train! (For a Private Group of up to 10 People)
Note: The Caboose for Caboose Rentals is not ADA accessible and does not have a restroom. Caboose Rentals may not be booked less than 24 hours ahead of the departure time. The caboose is isolated from the rest of the train, so Caboose Rental groups will not have access to the rest of the train while moving.
Cab Ride Seating (Available only from Garibaldi)

Note: Cab Riders must be 18 or older, unless accompanied by an adult. Ages 10-18 must be accompanied by an adult in for a cab ride. Under 10 prohibited. Cab rides are not ADA accessible and there is no restroom. The cab is isolated from the rest of the train, so Cab Riders will not have access to the rest of the train while moving.
