Candy Cane Express Helper Position

Location: Garibaldi, OR
Salary: $14.70/hr + Tips
Part-time
Non-exempt
Position reports to: Operations Supervisor

Position Purpose:
In keeping with the mission of Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad, which is to educate about, preserve, and restore the history of logging railroading in the Pacific Northwest, the Candy Cane Express Helper is a weekend, seasonal, and part-time position that is meant to be on board the train, helping make the experience merry and bright for all riders.

The dates for this position are Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays November 29-December 22 and Monday December 23. Fridays other than November 29th are afternoons only. All other days are full day shifts.

Essential Duties:
The Candy Cane Helper is required to:
1. Stand and walk for long periods of time
2. Be capable of walking between train cars while the train is moving
3. Have a good attitude and good attendance
4. Pass out cookies and cocoa on board the train
5. Help prepare for riders on the train

Performance Measurements
1. Neat and clean appearance adhering to the dress code.
2. Courteous and efficient relations with guests, including problem solving skills and the ability to meet immediate needs.
3.. Positive attitude and eagerness to assist customers.
5. Positive and effective relations with co-workers
6.. Timely work attendance and adherence to the worker replacement policy

Qualifications:

1. Ability to positively interact with people – guests and co-workers alike
2. Enthusiasm to provide excellent customer service
3. Flexibility and ability to adapt to unexpected circumstances
4. Ability to work during weekends and around the holiday season
5. Punctuality

Working Conditions:

1. The Candy Cane Express helper is a part-time, weekend position.
2. Training is on-the-job with a small amount of “classroom training” before the event starts.
3. Length of shift is generally between 4 – 10 hours based on the railroad’s needs.
4. Work is primarily conducted on board the train or on the platform. Outdoor work may be required during special events.
