Belding, OR On SP Tillamook Branch-99 Years Apart

As we reopen the track in the Salmonberry Canyon on SP's famed Tillamook Branch, we are always looking to locate all the locations that were once on the Tillamook Branch timetables.

One such spot is the old water stop at Belding, OR at Mile Post 807. Here are 2 shots taken 99 years apart at this spot.

The first view shows SP #2940 spotted for water in 1914. Engineer H.L. Arey stepped off the engine while his fireman, "Babe" Wescott fills the tender.

The second view was taken at the same spot in January showing the clean-up work we still have ahead of us as we reopen more of the Canyon.

As you can see this is rugged country to run trains in.
